Common questions:

  • Many people seek out therapy to make a difficult change in their life or to receive guidance and support as they work toward a challenging goal or try to heal from something painful. Therefore, it’s normal to feel anxious or nervous about starting therapy. In our sessions, you can expect a warm, supportive space to do the work and someone to walk alongside you as you move forward. I will not always have the answers or solutions, but you can trust that I will ask the hard questions in a compassionate, non-judgmental way and sit in the discomfort with you while we figure it out together. I will often also offer you skills, tools, or other resources that you can use and build upon.

  • I primarily work with adults experiencing high stress, anxiety, or trauma. I am not currently working with couples, families, or young children. I do strive to maintain an inclusive and safe space for LGBTQIA+ individuals, neurodiverse individuals, and BIPOC individuals.

  • I use a HIPAA-compliant (secure) version of Zoom for therapy sessions. When you start therapy, you will receive a link that will stay the same for all of your sessions. You just click the link when you’re ready for your session and I’ll connect with you from there. We’ll be able to see and hear each other through video. You can use a computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone to connect to your session. You should make sure you have as private of a space as possible for your sessions and have stable wifi or internet service for your sessions.

  • Online therapy, or telehealth, can be a great choice for many people and for many reasons! The reasons often range from added convenience and ease of scheduling, to increased confidentiality, to anxiety about starting the therapy process. It allows you to access therapy from the comfort of your own space without the hassle of driving to an office, dealing with traffic and parking, presenting to a receptionist, sitting in a waiting room, and trying to open up about your personal experience in a less than personal setting.

  • Online therapy might not be a good fit for you if you prefer in-person services, if you don’t have access to reliable internet or a safe, secure space to participate in sessions, or if you’re actively in a crisis situation and need more intensive, acute treatment such as inpatient services.

  • I am currently an in network provider with Aetna, Optum, Cigna and Lyra EAP. This includes most subsidiary plans of each of these (ie. United Healthcare, Oscar, etc). Please reach out to us to inquire if we are in-network with your specific health insurance plan prior to scheduling your first session if you plan to use health insurance benefits. We can also assist you in verifying your coverage and any associated costs (copay or deductible) with your plan.

  • That’s a great question- and something that is really impossible to know until we get started as each person comes to therapy with a different goal and from a different starting place. Having said that, the first session is usually a “get to know you” kind of session. I typically lead the first session by asking some questions and making space for you to ask any questions you might be wondering about. It’s low pressure and you’re welcome to share as much or as little as you want to with me. The rest of the sessions will vary depending on what treatment goals you have, what approach we’ve decided on together, and what you want to focus on in your therapy sessions.

  • This depends entirely on you. Maybe you just want to get a few ideas on extra coping skills to use to manage stress more effectively. Great, one or two sessions might be plenty for that! Or, maybe you have a long history of painful, traumatic experiences you’ve survived and you want to spend time deep diving into those and unpacking years and years worth of heaviness you’re tired of carrying. We can absolutely do that- and it’s going to take some time to wade through it together. Or, maybe you have a specific goal or issue in mind that you would like to target and you want to get through it as quickly as possible. Maybe an intensive package is the right fit for you!

  • Your right to privacy is one of my absolute top priorities. You own every piece of your story and you should be the one to decide if, how, when, and to whom it’s shared. In addition, you have a legal right to privacy of your health information and that includes mental health treatment. The only exceptions to this are as follows: if you share that you are going to hurt yourself or someone else, if you tell me about child abuse or elder abuse, or if a judge orders that some of your information is released for court. Even in these situations, I will do my best to maintain as much privacy and confidentiality as possible within the requirements of that situation. ANY other disclosure of your information will require your written consent including detailed information on what is to be shared and to whom.

  • I offer traditional talk therapy along with modalities such as EMDR, ACT, ART, and Brainspotting. You can learn more about each of these approaches to therapy by navigating to the Specialties page in the main men.
